Day 223

May 1, 2005

Well, the streak has well and truly gone - thought it was time to have my hair 1 colour before the procedure next week.

I'm sure it will be back!!

COUNTDOWN: 3 days

Day 224

May 2, 2005

A nice quiet Bank Holiday, hair's been slicked back all day but really needs to be cut tomorrow so i can bring it forward to cover the new hairline until it grows.

COUNTDOWN: 2 days

Day 225

May 3, 2005

Well it's my last day and I can't believe how time has flown.

Having my hair cut today - very boring style so that it looks ok for the week after the Op....Nothing like being prepared and learning from the first time.

I am very excited and very confident about tomorrow.

COUNTDOWN: 1 Day

Day 226

May 4, 2005

Flew out to Athens in the morning by Hellas jet - a bit of a rush but I made it...Just!

Arrived on the evening to chat to a couple of guys who had their ops that day and the day before.

A little bit nervous about the morning but I'm 100% sure all will be OK.

Day Of Procedure

May 5, 2005

Woke up early and the driver drove me to the Clinic - seems like I was having a Deja-Vu!
It was good to see the surgeon and the girls again - they were just as friendly as before.
The surgeon drew the new hairline on me and I couldn't believe how much he thought he could put in - I was only expecting a very slight drop but what I got was amazing to say the least.
So onto the bed and the strip was removed and stitched back up so fast. No pain just a little discomfort with the injections.

So a short break and onto my back for the implanting - again no pain apart from a little discomfort with the injections.
The procedure started at 9am and finished at 3pm with only a couple of very short breaks.
I managed to fall asleep through most of it which is why I can't actually remember much of it - it was only my own snoring that woke me up (and made the surgeon and the girls grin....how embarassing hehehe)

So all over and back to the apartment.

Was greeted at the door by Craig (who had the procedure the day before) and so definately time for another photo opportunity - vanity seems to come so naturally to some people hehehe

Had a couple of photos taken by Craig...these are incredible considering I was only in surgery an hour or so ago...

I couldn;t sleep so me a Craig went off to Molly Malones (the local Irish bar) for a meal - Highly recommended!

Back to the apartment for a chat and a good nights sleep. It really was so easy this time - I cannot believe it is all over and done with. Again, the clinic was spotless and the procedure professionally carried out. I am so glad I have had it done.

Wearing the headband to control the swelling...don't I just look like 118-118 hehehe

Goodnight.

Day 1

May 6, 2005

Just arrived home after a 4 hour flight and an hours drive from Manchester.

I would thoroughly recommend Hellas Jet to travel to and from Athens - they're friendly, the food is good and apart from a little bit of turbulance, the flight was perfect (could have something to do with me having a row to myself and so sleeping for 3 out of the 4 hours!)

The swelling has stopped mid forehead due to wearing the band. Have taken it off for now to start massaging the swelling to the side in the hope it will avoid my eyes.

I'm in no pain, not even any discomfort. I just feel a little numb on top.

Hey...what scar'

'

Day 2

May 7, 2005

Slept like a baby last night and although the swelling is heading south, I feel mighty fine.

I can really imagine where the new hairline is going to be and how much difference it is going to make to my whole appearance.

I am so happy and I owe it all to the surgeon.

THANK YOU!

Doing some great massage exercises as recommended by the Clinic to control the flow of the swelling and they're working!

The idea is to guide the swelling heading south to the sides of the head thus avoiding the eyes. This avoids black eyes.

You do end up with swelling at the sides of the head but that's going to be very short-lived. (Obviously you use both hands at the same time but that's a little impossible to show when I'm using one hand to take the photos :) )

'

Day 3

May 8, 2005

A lazy Sunday. Starting to wash my hair with the Iodine shampoo (second time) and it just feels fantastic.

Still managing to go to the pub at night wearing a hat.

The swelling in my face is almost invisible - it's only really me that knows it's there.

All is good with the transplant as all of them seem to have taken. There is still no pain and only the slightest bit of discomfort where my scar is - a few sharp pains which last milliseconds a couple of times throughout the day.

Again, I cannot recommend the clinic enough - the first transplant changed my life, goodness knows what this one is going to do to me....watch out world, here I come!!!

'

Day 4

May 9, 2005

Well the scabs are starting to fall out and I feel fine.

The swelling has avoided my eyes and this time I have no black eyes yipppeee!

Feel fine and sleeping well.

'

Day 5

May 10, 2005

Had a very quiet day - scabs still falling out and still feeling great.

Looking forward to showing my folks the results tomorrow and also looking forward to all on the scabs falling out so I don't have to wear a hat anymore!

'

Day 6

May 11, 2005

Spent the day with my folks - they were very impressed with the lack of swelling (and quite relieved).

Thanks - those massage techniques worked a treat!

Scabs still falling off in the 100's and although scalp looks a bit pinkish, it is very healthy.

Almost a week since my procedure and I feel 10 times better than last year.

'

Day 7

May 12, 2005

It's my birthday!!

Picture's of me in the pub...hic!

'

Day 8

May 13, 2005

Friday the 13th.....SCARY!!!

Had a lovely day with my folks again.

Head very itchy but that's to be expected.

Stitches coming out on Monday thank goodness.

Day 9

May 14, 2005

A really nice restful Saturday.

I have no more scabs on my scalp and it's a nice healthy pinkish colour. It's slightly itchy and dry but referring back to the first procedure, this happened before and was very short-lived.

I guess I'm fully recovered now although I never had any bruising, only a slight bit of swelling and near enough no pain.

How easy is that!!

Some of my own hair is falling out because of the "Shock Effect" - that's why my hair looks a little thin on top however, any hairs that fall out at this stage grow back so I'm not worried at all.

Day 10

May 15, 2005

Only one more day until the stitches come out - I can't wait. I'm not in any pain but it's a little bit uncomfortable sleeping on my back as they pull a little bit around the edges.

All in all, I feel fine!

Day 12

May 17, 2005

The all new Head of hair launched today - hope you like the new look with lot's more information and much easy to navigate.

You can help - check out the Articles and see if there's anything you can contribute.

Hair is great today and I'm feeling very healthy. Noticing the shock effect really getting hold now but am not worried in the slightest.

Day 13

May 18, 2005

Pretty average day today - hair is starting to go very thin on top - wish I could teleport 3 months through time when it all comes back. Hey ho, no pain - no gain as they say

Day 14

May 19, 2005

Nice day at the folks.

Hair looking very thin now - noticed a lot (maybe 10-15) of hairs come out last night and a few hairs on my pillow this morning. Completely expected but nevertheless still a little disappointing.

ROLL ON 3 MONTHS!

Day 15

May 20, 2005

Well 8 months have passed with 2 procedures and an enormous growth in confidence.

I think the shock effect is starting to end now as everytime I rub my hair, no hair comes out. This could well be the start!

Hey, do you like my catchline "from bald to bold..." - Thought it just about summed up the whole experience!

Day 16

May 21, 2005

Hair cut day - had it all trimmed to a short length and was a celebrity in the salon again hehehe.

Shock has completely finished now and just started on the waiting game.

Day 17

May 22, 2005

Nice day with the folks and a steady evening relaxing.

Feeling a little bit low with regard to how thin my hair is now, but easily able to lift myself up with the thought of what I'm going to be like in 3 months time....hairy!

Day 18

May 23, 2005

Used a tiny biy of DermMatch as I was going to the pub quiz on the evening - amazing the difference it makes!

We came last so perhaps it wasn't worth it afterall hehehe.

Day 19

May 24, 2005

Took some close shots of my scalp - you can really see where the new hairline is going to be, it'll look fantastic when it grows.

You can also see that not all of the transplanted hair fell out which was nice :)

Really happy with the results so far, just starting to get a little'impatient.

Day 20

May 25, 2005

Been asked a lot of times about the scar. The scar becomes almost invisable after a couple of months.

After 3 weeks and a short haircut, this is what it is like....not bad at all eh'

There's just a feint paleness where I'm missing some hair (which will grow back) so realistically, the scar will be invisable when I grow my hair a little longer.

Day 21

May 26, 2005

Busy Thursday!

Using a little bit of Fucicort to reduce the last bit of redness.
Shock well and truly finished but has take 1/4 of my hair with it.

Difficult period now as I was so used to having hair over the past few months, hey ho, it was expected so just need to wait for the hair to come back.

Day 22

May 27, 2005

Redness calming down and almost gone.

Still playing the waiting game hehehe....

Day 23

May 28, 2005

Well, I'm off to see Duran Duran and Daniel Bedingfield in concert so I guess the hair doesn't figure much today :)

Above are some photos from the concert.

Day 24

May 29, 2005

A nice slow Sunday, folks came to visit which was perfect.

Hair is fine, still a little reddy where the transplant was and the hair surrounding the scar has still to grow back.

This really is a waiting game now....

Day 25

May 30, 2005

A nice slow Bank Holiday Monday with lots of rest and lots of sleep.

Came 5th in the pub quiz so getting better!

Had my first cyst this evening which (as before) I burst and it healed over within a couple of minutes. That's 1 graft not taken which is incredibly good as a percentage of how many I had!

Day 26

May 31, 2005

Had a fantastic day today. The clinic invited me down to London to meet some potentail new patients.

It was an amazing day meeting 11 guys all interested in starting a new life.
